We often become too focused on our prior mistakes. This stuck-ness can lead to thinking in ways that are limiting and pathologizing, and ultimately can constrict our choices and daily living. In our work together, we'll focus on individual choices and the “here and now" to get you moving in the direction you want to go. Together we can work on discovering what you really want for yourself and imagine the possibilities that exist within YOU. I believe in the strength of personal empowerment as I partner with you to achieve your fullest potential.
In addition to traditional behavioral techniques, I specialize in a strengths-based approach to counseling. I work with clients of all identities and sexual orientations, with a special interest in LGBTQ+ concerns. As an individual in recovery myself, I also have a personal interest in working with individuals and families impacted by addiction. I work with the Client to teach them how to identify, and address, the underlying stressors to their addiction. Being an adoptive parent I help provide individuals and families of adoption grow in a healthy and productive direction.
Sometimes in life, our worst critics are ourselves, which is why it is so important to identify, and focus, on the strengths that we have as individuals. We have the ability to change the perspective of things that hurt us, giving us the ultimate power of self-validation which helps build a sense of self-satisfaction to encourage positive self growth.
The most important moment in a persons life is this very moment. By making personal choices, we have the ability to decide where we will go next. We often become so focused on our mistakes that it creates an unhealthy way of thinking, when in reality, these mistakes are learning lessons and need to be cherished.
Over time, we create mechanisms in hopes of just making it through that troubling moment. Many of these mechanisms will often become the norm and ultimately create negative habits and behaviors, which only adds to the struggle. We have to become aware of these maladaptive processes and behaviors if we want to make the positive changes in our life.
